Have just found this project and it looks really interesting but had some trouble installing the desktop client on Debian Buster.
It appears that something was broken with the debian packaging between V36.2 and V37.0.
36.2 installs and appears to run fine. 37.0 and all the later versions I have tried throw this error during install
Could not parse file “/usr/share/applications/screensavers/glitchpeg.desktop”: Key file contains line ?several times a second. After a while, finds a new image to corrupt. Written by Jamie Zawinski; 2018.? which is not a key-value pair, group, or comment
and when I try to run it the only output given is this
